#314 Apply to Be on a Show About BeautifulPeople.com
Last week I applied to be on a shallow, looks-based website called BeautitfulPeople.com. My profile was up for 48 hours at which time members on the site would rate my looks (based of one picture) and determine whether or not I was worth to be on the site. When I checked back on my profile after 48 hours I was greeted with this popup:
What? No email? And a popup?? They couldn’t even design a rejection page? All I was worth was a couple lines of javascript??
Then I shrugged my shoulders. Whatevs and moved on.
Then two days ago I got this email:
Dear Greg,

But wait a minute. This was a great opportunity to tell them what I thought of the site. I didn’t want to sound like a whiny brat. I broke it down logically. In addition to the basic information they asked for, this is the reply I sent to the question “Why you think you didn’t get accepted?”:
I think I’m a good looking enough fellow. I think that BeautifulPeople.com’s admission process is flawed at best. Looking at the graph, I would estimate less than 20 people actually voted on my profile. I’d imagine the site has thousands and thousands of members. This represents an extremely low sample size of the BP population. Therefore, it is difficult to assume that the results for my profile are an accurate indication of what the majority of users think.
BP could improve their admission process by saying that a profile stays up until it gets a certain NUMBER of votes. Not a specific time frame. Only after X amount of votes can the user be deemed acceptable or not. This would give a more accurate sampling of the BP population.
I completely ignored the question of why I wanted to be a BeautifulPeople member. Because I guess I don’t. Or don’t care. I attached the photo I used for my profile.
The next day I received a phone call from guess who? The casting company handling this BeautifulPeople show. They left a message because I was at lunch and when I called back, I got their voicemail so I don’t know what they want.
This could be an interesting experience. Maybe they’ll even bring me in for an audition or something. I’ll be the guy on the show who doesn’t give a fuck. How bad ass would that be?
