#308 Sneak into a Movie Screening
I have been known to give up easily on certain things. I admit it. In St. Louis I was ready to give up on seeing the Arch but Clara wasn’t. At Comikaze, I was ready to give up on getting a photo with Erin Gray but Lea pushed to make it happen.
I was with Lea again tonight as we were trying to go see a free screening of Haywire. There was a Q&A session afterwards. My scary thing was to ask Gina Carano (grrr) a question.
The thing about these free screenings, is they overbook every one. So you have to get there relatively early in order to get in. Lea and I ended up getting down there about a half an hour before the movie started.
Lea is the queen of not taking no for an answer. When we got to the parking structure, there was a sign that said, “LOT FULL.” But Lea pulled up anyway. “Are there really no spots left?” she asked innocently. The parking attendant said no. Then Lea asked to look anyway. At that point another car pulled out of the lot. “It’s your lucky day I guess,” the attendant said and waved us in.
If that were me, I would’ve seen the sign and just looked for a spot on the street. Now granted, I don’t really give a shit where I park but it didn’t really take much more effort to wind up with a free spot in the lot.
We waited in line for fifteen minutes on the sidewalk outside the theater. I mentioned to Lea that I really had to use the bathroom so I hoped we got in soon. Then, people started coming out of the theater. “It’s full,” they told us. Lea looked at me and said, “Well, let’s at least use the bathroom.” The way she said it, I knew we were going to attempt to sneak into the screening.
We went inside and there were still some people at the checkin table trying to get in. I saw the bathrooms beyond the checkin table, by the theater entrance. “There are the bathrooms,” I said to Lea.
The next thing I knew, I headed straight for that checkin table. I didn’t follow Lea. I went there on my own. I walked straight past the checkin table like I owned the place. The girls at the table didn’t even look at me. There was a security guard standing right by the bathrooms. He saw me walk past the table and into the bathroom and said nothing.
I’ve had friends who do stuff like this say it’s all in the attitude. If you look like you belong, nobody asks you questions. I guess it’s true.
I texted Lea and of course, she had made her way in also. We met outside and walked into the theater.
The theater was jam packed. I saw a couple of seats near the front but they were quickly snatched up. We did find another seat but only one. I walked around to the reserved section to see if I could press my luck but security said all the seats were filled.
In the end, we had to leave because we couldn’t find another seat. But technically, we had made it all the way in and were only foiled by lack of seats. I was bummed that I didn’t get to see Gina in person and ask her out on a date, I mean ask her a question. Still, I did get all the way into the theater. Something I normally would’ve been too scared to try. So for today, that was good enough.
